Wood Jewellry

Jewelery (or jewellry) has been in existence for many centuries, made initially from such natural materials as bone, shell, wood, animal teeth and carved stone. Whilst originally some such items may have had a more functional purpose, but later evolved into more decorative items.

If you are looking to purchase wood jewellry, and are specifically looking at rings, you should carefully select the wood you use to have the ring crafted. Certain woods are much more durable than others, and if you are purchasing a wood ring, you want to make sure the wood is going to last as long as you want to keep it. Many people are now using wood rings as wedding rings. Some because of the environmental reasons to using wood jewellry and some, simply because they love the look the wood provides.

There are two types of wood thatuse when purchasing a wood ring. But I would like to mention that the responsible thing is to always research the environmental practice of the person you are purchasing from. They should be able to insure they purchased the lumber from a reputable source. Now, back to the wood... It is Satine Rubane and Ebony.

Satine Rubane:Satine Rubane is very durable and is a rich red colour that has a gold luster, red and yellow stripes. It has a very high natural polish that completes the beautiful perfect package.

Ebony: Ebony also polishes very well and for all these listed reasons, it is a wonderful wood to use for wood jewelry.

Metals: Another item to consider is mixing metals with the wood. Many times, ring crafters will use a metal with the wood to make it stronger and more durable.

Conclusion You may find that your needs do not dictate a ring with high quality, high durability wood. If you are buying for a certain colour or look, you will have to forfeit durability for presentation.
